On June 21, 2021, Bad Attitudes: An Uninspiring Podcast About Disability launched to bring entertainment and education to the disabled and non-disabled communities — and not much inspiration.
Bad Attitudes is a light-on-the-inspiration, heavy-on-the-sarcasm podcast about the realities of living life disabled in the 21st century — from the perspective of an actual disabled person!
Most episodes top out at a bite-size 15 minutes or less, so listeners needn’t feel overwhelmed by information. Each episode covers current events, pop culture, or random thoughts, all from the disabled perspective.
The sharing of disabled stories is too often overshadowed by so-called “inspiration porn,” and disabled individuals are expected to keep up a facade of cheeriness, innocence, and, above all, a GOOD ATTITUDE.
Bad Attitudes aims to fly in the face of those expectations. The disabled community’s anger and frustration are valid and justified. It’s time our stories reflect our reality.

I've got a bad attitude
I’m your host, Laura, resident uninspiring disabled person. Bad Attitudes is my passion project. As a lifelong disabled person and wheelchair user, I have encountered many, many, MANY people who are ignorant of disability, and I am consistently frustrated with the way non-disabled media shares our disability stories.
I hate the constant spate of inspiration porn that is peddled as a realistic representation of the disabled experience, and I knew I was not the only one. I looked for a way I could share the disability experience as I know it, and where my natural sarcastic humor wouldn’t be misconstrued. Let’s face it, sarcasm doesn’t always translate well in text.
I had just gotten the memo about podcasts and I thought, “I could do that. Probably.” I had tried blogging before but wasn’t great at being consistent. Why not give podcasting a shot? I figured I might drift off after 30 episodes or so, but we’re still going strong today!
I have osteogenesis imperfecta, a genetic condition that affects the collagen in the bones. As a result, my bones are more prone to breaking than the average person. I also have scoliosis and have been using a manual wheelchair since the age of 4.
I am also a business owner! I run FairyNerdy, a small online shop selling stickers, t-shirts, pins, and other products using my original art and designs.
